Climathon Aotearoa, NZ.
Creating a new energy future for every Aucklander
Auckland is New Zealand’s largest and fastest growing city.
How can we power this growth in a low carbon way that is
affordable and accessible for every Aucklander?
Our challenges range from how we generate and use energy to how we travel.
Let’s design a brighter energy future for our brilliant city.
About Climathon
The University of Auckland's Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, in partnership with Vector, is hosting Auckland's first ever Climathon! A 24 hour global ideas hack, the event will take place simultaneously in over 233 cities worldwide. Climathon was designed by Europe’s largest public-private innovation partnership focused on climate change,
known as Climate-KIC.
Take part in this large scale international programme to bring to life innovations and solutions to climate change issues.
The Auckland Climathon will be held over 24 hours from Friday night, 27th October to Saturday night, 28th October.
Students, staff, and the greater Auckland community are invited to participate (we’ll let you sleep, we promise!).
We'll keep you fed, inspired and ready for action. This is a free event, thanks to the generosity of our sponsor Vector.
Registrations for Climathon Auckland have now closed.

How Climathon Works
What you can expect during the 24 hour event
Friday - 5-11pm (Registrations at 5 for 6pm start)
Saturday - 8am - 8pm
Propose solutions & form teams
Friday night is all about
exploring the challenges
Auckland faces around climate and ideating solutions to those challenges.
We will have
open-mic pitches, where
participants get 1 minute to
pitch their ideas to the crowd,
to get people inspired to work
on your solution.
Teams form around ideas, and the remainder of the night is spent working in teams and with coaches to determine how best to tackle the solution in the remainder of the time.
Run experiments to test your ideas
Saturday is all about action – using the Design Led Thinking process to develop your idea into a prototyped solution, and using lean methodology to test your assumptions in the market place. You’ll be surrounded by science and climate experts, design led thinking and lean methodology coaches to really support you.
Present progress and win
On Saturday evening, teams present their solutions to a judging panel who will determine which idea wins. Opportunity for support to all presented ideas is available to apply for post-event.
